What’s in my camera bag? – Concordia, Missouri photographer

I have had a draft of this post saved since I started this blog almost two years ago. I decided now would be a great time to share what is in my camera bag because I have now have a freebie to take better photos with your phone or DSLR. Sign up for the KA newsletter to receive it!

The camera bag

I should start this post by emphasizing that the title should say bags, not just one camera bag. I have a thing for camera bags and tend to think I need all of them. Currently, I have a House of Flynn backpack that color coordinates with my brand colors, two JoTotes bags in mint to match my brand, an ONA messenger bag, and an ONA camera bag insert. And they all have different uses and are appropriate for different situations. I like to think I am a collector of camera bags if you will.

The cameras

My primary camera is a Nikon D800, and I absolutely love it. It is my first full frame camera, and I am just so happy with it. I would love the have the D810, but I am going to have to save up for that bad boy.

My first DSLR camera was a Nikon D7000 that I received brand new my junior year of college. I used this throughout school and learned to shoot in manual mode. I still have this camera and use it as a back up, and in situations when I would like a smaller camera or don’t want to risk my D800. For instance, when we went hiking in California with my aunt.

The lenses

My go-to and  favorite lenses are currently my 35mm f/1.8 and my 85mm f/1.8. The 35mm is great for everyday, lifestyle photos – like my Project365. I adore using the 85mm for portraits. My other lenses are a 50mm f/1.8, a Lensbaby, a fisheye lens, and a couple of zoom lenses that I typically used with my D7000.

I would love a 105mm f/2.8 macro lens. Detail photographs are some of my favorites and I don’t think I could stress enough how much I would love to own this lens. There are two zoom lenses I want as well – the 24-70mm f/2.8 and the 70-200mm f/2.8. I really want the 24-70mm before we go on our honeymoon because I think it would be the perfect travel lens.

The extras

Along with all of the gear, there are always SD and CF cards in my camera bags. I try to keep a Lenspen and some lens wipes handy as well so that my lenses and camera are always clean and ready. Spare batteries, a charger and a battery grip are also often present – especially on wedding days.

I use the Spider Holster system during wedding days, and a SpiderPro handstrap on my D800. Personally, I find it less bulky than a neck strap and easy to reach into my bag to grab my camera.
