What to wear Wednesdays | Maternity sessions

Once a month, I am going to answer your style questions for the different types of sessions. I often get asked what to wear for a maternity session, and I thought what better way to answer that than to blog about it! Stephanie and Chris just had their session last weekend, and they absolutely knocked it out of the park! Stephanie had two floor-length maxi dresses that highlighted her baby bump perfectly, and Chris rocked a blazer and dress shoes like it was his job. I seriously think I could rave about their outfit choices all. day. long. Keep reading for some tips to prepare for your upcoming maternity session!

Tip #1: If you’re an expecting mother, I always like to recommend floor-length gowns or maxi dresses.

These dresses create the best silhouettes to flatter your figure and really highlight your bump. A lot of our expecting mothers love to incorporate flower crowns or headpieces as well! Long, full-length, flowy dresses and skirts look amazing on camera because they bring extra movement to the photos.

Tip #2: Think about who else will be in the photos.

If you have older children who will also be coming to the session, a shorter dress may not be the best idea. I’ll likely have you sitting or crouching on the ground to interact up-close with them. A floor-length dress makes moving around with the little ones easier and less stressful, and it will look perfect on camera.

Tip #3: You can rock two outfits.

If you want to bring one “Wow!” dress, and another more casual dress, or two “Wow!” dresses, it’s totally up to you! This is just a great way to add some variety to your photos, but if it’s too stressful, you can just bring one outfit if you’d prefer.

Tip #4: This one if for the fellas!

Long pants and close-toed shoes look the most masculine, and photograph the best. Layers always look amazing on camera, so I love when guys wear suits or blazers with some dark jeans. Dress shoes or boots are always a great addition to a guys look.
