Things we love (We love a lot of things!)

As a way to get to know a bit more about Justin and I, Mondays will now feature things we love! This could be anything from what we stream on Netflix, to our favorite restaurants to places to photograph people. So in the interest of kicking this off right, here are three small things we like to do together. 🙂

1. Day dates

When we have errands to run in the city (for those not from small town Lafayette county, “the city” = anywhere from Blue Springs to Kansas City and can be a 45 minute to an hour drive), sometimes Justin will ask if I want to “make a day of it.” Usually if we have gift cards for somewhere, or we need something for the house, we’ll make sure to stop by any of those stores all in one day instead of making multiple trips. We often grab lunch together, and usually coffee because I like to drink that all the time. We turn something we have to do into a way to spend time together, and trips to the city alone are often quite boring.

2. Bi-weekly budget meetings

This may sound like a not so fun task, but this is definitely one of the things we love. We started the Dave Ramsey Total Money Makeover at the beginning of this year, and we’re only a month in, but we love it so much! Honestly, it sometimes makes us a bit sick at times with how careless we were with our money in the past. However, we can’t change the past, so there’s no point in dwelling on it too long. We are looking forward and using our spreadsheets to make to most of every dollar.

Every other Friday is payday, so we sit down after dinner and make sure we are both aware of any upcoming payments that need to be scheduled. We look at when it’s best to schedule the payments and how much of our month of cash we will get out at once. And, we also make calculations for the next pay period. It’s so exciting to see how much progress we have made in a month!

3. Making dinner together

With budgeting comes a lot more eating at home. I love when we can both hang out in the kitchen while I cook or we cook together. I usually put on some music, maybe have a glass of wine, and we just talk about whatever. It could be our day, upcoming events, whatever. We just take some time to be together. It’s not an every night thing, but it’s often enough that it is one of my favorite things we love.
