The Story of Us: Marriage advice from loved ones

We are a little over a week away from our wedding, and I figured now would be a great time to post this. Around the time of my parent’s wedding anniversary in June, I decided I wanted to share some wedding advice from my parents and grandparents. I figured this fit into “The Story of Us” since it is advice we will be able to use. My parents were on the same page with their advice, although my mom responded with some jokes prior to dolling out the real advice. 🙂

Advice from parents

Mom: “Make the time to be together and do things together – just the two of you. But, also surround yourselves with friends and family who will always have your back. Communicate with each other about everything. Be sure to laugh together each day. HAVE FUN & LOVE ONE ANOTHER – ALWAYS!!!”

Dad: “Communication is key to a successful marriage. You have to talk to each other.”

Advice from Grandparents

Mema: “Communication. You have to talk to one another. Sit down and talk about the day or your week and just check in with each other.”

Papa: “Take it as it comes. Talk things out and make the best of every day. And that’s all I know.”

Grandma and Grandpa

Grandma: “Agree to disagree. Enjoy each other. Do things the other wants to do, but that you might not necessarily want to. We can talk to each other about anything. We like to discuss our family. Every day is different, and we have little things we do – like last one out of the bed makes it. That’s life. That’s our life. We have a really good working relationship. We can pretty much handle anything.”

Grandpa: “Trust each other. Live one day at a time.”
