The Story of Us: DJ, florist and caterer, oh my!

We have had a very productive January when it comes to wedding planning! While we were not very active in November and December of 2016, we took January by storm and wanted to get as much done as we could. We met with three of our vendors and were able to get back into the swing of planning. Our hope is to get all of the major things out of the way to have more time for planning the smaller details that will make the day feel more like us.

All the vendors, please

Towards the beginning of the month, we met with our DJ, Crystal Productions DJ Service. The owner, Roy, was so great and super easy to talk to. We were able to select a package that will be perfect for our reception, and they have an online client area that lets us plan out the evening.

We met with Stephanie of Pigeon’s Nest in Higginsville, Mo., the following week. My mom and sister also came to help us brainstorm ideas. Her vision for our arrangements is perfect, and I loved how excited she was when I told her I wanted her to be as creative as she’d like with all the bouquets and boutonnieres. We spoke for around an hour, and I cannot wait to see her ideas come to fruition. 🙂

And then the week after that, we met with our caterer, Brian Knapp with BK Catering, to go over our menus for the rehearsal dinner and reception. I am already thinking about how delicious those cheesy potatoes are!

How we are handling planning

There’s really no way to know how extensive wedding planning is until you are in the thick of it. Even when you attend (or in my case photograph) a wedding, you’re aware of all the gorgeous decorations, delicious food, etc., but not what it took to make that vision a reality. We still have a few more vendors to look into – like the cake and event rentals – before I want to focus on decorations or favors.

I cannot thank my parent’s and Justin enough for being so understanding when I can be so difficult (like about a tent). It is not that I am trying to be difficult, I just have this vision in my mind of what the day could look like, and I am not always the best about expressing that. I am better at visuals than explanations.

The next steps

On Saturday, I go dress shopping with my mom and sister. I am excited and nervous all at the same time. Like with the reception, I have a vision in my head of what my dream dress is, and I just hope I can find that when we go. 🙂

We are also going to be ordering Justin’s suit before too long. We have been using the Wedding Wire checklist, and finding and ordering your wedding attire is a February task that we are looking forward too! In case you’ve missed any of The Story of Us you can find more here.
