While we have only been married for only a few short days at this point, we did so many things to prepare well before our wedding. I think that may have been my sanity’s saving grace.
1. We did the little things as early as possible.
Buying decorations and the cake topper, picking out the groomsmen’s clothes, and we even registered ridiculously early. When we decided to go get Justin’s suit, it was probably three months before it was scheduled on the timeline. If we had time to be crossing something off the list, we were doing it.
2. We communicated with my parents about our vision for the day
The day of we were both so busy, we weren’t going to be available to decorate or keep things going the way we would like. My parents were insistent that we let them know exactly how we wanted things so they could get it all set up while we were getting ready.
3. The ceremony script and our vows
We found a script online and I edited it to be more in line with what we wanted from the day. Our vows were also something we found online, but we personalized them to be our own. We had to have the script done early for sure so that my grandpas could go over it a few times.
4. Booked vendors well in advance
This is another thing we tried to do as soon as possible. We booked our photographers within a month of being engaged, and met with our caterer, florist and DJ in February. We wanted to have all of the big things crossed off the list so we were scrambling to get anything done.
5. Made sure to make time for date nights
Even with all the things we had to do, we still made it a point to make time for each other. Date nights were usually low-key, dinner and a movie type, but they were perfect and so needed. It is so important to take the time to just be together and not be worrying about the to-do list.
