The Adventures of JI & Kels – Three days in Rome

OH MY GOSH!! Rome was incredible, you guys. We arrived and were able to explore on the first day. I have a break down of each day listed below, and I tried to include what we did each day, but honestly we did so much that I may have forgotten some things. All of the photos will be below each day! Hope you enjoy. 🙂

Day one

After check in we decided to grab some lunch and then go exploring. You guys, let me tell you about our ordering mishap. We though pizza would be good, and there was a place across that street that we went to, mainly for convenience. We tried to order a prosciutto pizza, and the waiter said something about tomato. I realize now that he probably meant tomato sauce, but I said, “No, just the ham.” And when that pizza was delivered, it was JUST PROSCIUTTO ON A TOASTED PIZZA CRUST!

When we stopped back by the room, Kristina, our travel agent, had sent up some prosecco.

In the afternoon, we wandered about. We saw the Spanish Steps and went to the Trevi Fountain. We ate dinner at a little place close to our hotel, and it was pretty good. I had ravioli and Justin had fettuccini bolognese. I had my first Italian wine with dinner, and it did not disappoint. Our waiter was hilarious and so friendly! Then, I finished off the night with some gelato, and oh my gosh I want to eat it ALL THE TIME!

Day two

We slept in on this day and probably averaged close to 12 hours of sleep. When we woke up, we went exploring, visited a crypt (art was made out of skeletons you guys!) saw the Pantheon, and had some lunch on the way back. We took a brief break for about an hour at the hotel prior to our Eating Italy tour. The tour was amazing. We met so many amazing people, it was so great to have company for a night. There were seven stops on the tour, and we were stuffed before going home.

The first restaurant we went to was Da Enzo Al 20, where we had melon, prosciutto and cheese with prosecco. I loved it, Justin was okay with it – I call it a win. Then, we walked to Spirito Di Vino. We went down to their ancient wine cellar (like so ancient the walls are protected and can’t even be dusted. The wine was amazing and we had a delicious pork shoulder with crusty bread.

After that, we stopped for some sweet treats at Innocenti, where the Innocenti family has been creating cookies since 1929. The next stop was probably Justin’s favorite. We went to Nocineria Lacozzilli where we had the best porchetta ever! It was amazing. Our fifth stop was at I Suppli, were we had “Rome’s favorite street-food snack,” the suppli – which is a delicious, deep fried rice ball. As we also had some pizza by the slice. Casa Mia was our “dinner” stop, where we ate two different kinds of pasta and drank some wine. We finished off the evening with some gelato from Fatamorgana. The flavors were amazing.

On our walk home, we saw some ruins, but honestly I have no idea where or what they were. We took so many interesting ways to and from places that it became easy to get turned around.

Day three

This was our 9+ hour tour day. We left the hotel before 9 a.m. and did not return until 7:30. We had a morning tour, lunch at a restaurant near the tour agency and then an afternoon tour. Rome is full of so much history, and our guides keep saying “Rome is a recycled city,” when talking about historical buildings. Things were taken from the Colosseum or other monuments in town and used to build other buildings. There were so many facts and so many places we went that it would take forever for me to type them!
