Adventures of JI & Kels: Becoming a two-dog home

We adopted Watson the weekend we came home from Italy. Talk about jumping right in. We alluding in our vows to someday being a two-dog home. When we came back from Italy, and we saw how much fun Banner had playing with other dogs at Bed & Bones for two weeks, we decided it was time to take the leap.

Picking out a puppy

After I got home form a session that Saturday morning, we were joking about how tired Banner was still. I told Justin, “He’d be like this all the time if he had another dog to play with.” AND HE TOLD ME TO START LOOKING AT PUPPIES!!! I do not have to be told twice.

We went to Independence Great Plains SPCA after seeing they had some puppies on their website with Banner in tow. They had some Australian Shepard mixes (that we were told would be medium dogs) and so we went and looked at them. I loved all of them, but Justin pointed to the little girl with the white chest and brindle fur.

And our family grew by one

We took her out to meet Banner, and after some smelling, he didn’t seem too fazed. Justin and I talked for a bit, and decided we’d like to take her home. After filling out all of the paperwork, we left with our unnamed pup. We put her in the back with Banner in his hammock for the ride to Petco, and then he refused to look at us or her. He wasn’t aggressive, but was definitely confused as to why the little fluffball was invading his life.

Fitting in

It has been an adjustment, that’s for sure. But everyday they get along better, and Banner seems to genuinely enjoy having someone to play with. Becoming a two-dog home hasn’t been easy per say, but Watson seems to be fitting right in.

She is definitely going to be a large dog. We went to her second vaccination appointment yesterday, and at 3 months old she weighs 23.5 pounds. Watson loves to do everything Banner does. If he runs around the yard, she chases him. Banner decides he needs to run with a stick in his mouth? Watson finds one and chases him with it. I love watching the two of them be hooligans in our backyard. 🙂

Lately, she has taken to jumping off the couch like a flying squirrel in an attempt to land on his back. Who knows what shenanigans they will be up to next? 🙂
