The Story of Us: Planning our big day – Concordia, Missouri Photographer

We have 11 months until we get married and I am so stinking excited!! 🙂 Planning for our big day has been interesting. Right after we got engaged we were crazy busy planning for about a week. Then, I suggested we take a week to just enjoy it. I wanted us to have some time to just be happy that we were taking this step together before we got busy worrying about the next big step. We haven’t really picked back up with the same “full-steam ahead” attitude we had. Instead, we are moving at a rather lackadaisical pace because there’s only so much we can do this far out.

So far, we have chosen and met with our photographers. Their names are Mike and Julie – and they are great. The are JSi Photography, a husband and wife team, and I love that. We adore their work and love that they capture the in between moments and candid smiles right along with the big events throughout the day. We met with them in Westport and talked for about an hour just getting to know each other. I loved that they took time out of their day just to speak with us. There was no pressure or anything like that, they just wanted to know our story.

We spoke with our caterer as well. Brian Knapp with BK’s Catering is a family friend that I have known for years. His barbeque is incredible and I love his cheesy potatoes! I joked with one of my older cousin’s that I would be wearing a bib while eating so that I didn’t get any sauce/food on my dress. She looked appalled, but I think it’s a splendid idea if I want to chow down without worrying about food all over me.

The wedding party has also been selected. We will each have 6 people standing up there with us, a few ushers and then the nieces and nephews will be ring bearers, flower girls, etc.

One of my favorite things about our wedding so far is that my grandpas will be marrying us. I am going to help get them ordained online and they will be the ones performing the ceremony for us to begin our journey as husband and wife.

Another sentimental favorite is the location. We are going to get married out at my family’s barn. The wedding will be in one of the fields, with the reception to follow. The barn will be available as a rainy-day backup.

We have also purchased our wedding bands. We bought them from the same jeweler that Justin purchased my ring from. They are absolutely stunning and I may or may not be using them to practice detail shots. 🙂

We spent some time last week trying to decide on a first dance song. Two hours of listening to music later, we still don’t’ have one. We have plenty of time, but we want to make sure to find the song that is right for us, the one that fits our story.

There is still so much to do! If you missed our engagement story you can read that here. 🙂 I hope you enjoy following along with our story!
