Five favorite things: Family sessions – Concordia, Missouri Photographer

Family sessions are always so much fun for me. No two families are the same, and I love that! The individual personalities of each member of the family that seem to fit together and mold the way the family presents itself is always interesting to see. I try to tell corny jokes to get everyone to loosen up. I’m not afraid to be silly for the little ones. There’s just something to special about a family gathering to capture the love they have for one another in a photograph. I’ve listed five of my favorite things about family sessions below, and I hope you can relate. 🙂

1. I love the way siblings interact. It is amazing to me that is doesn’t matter if they are 2 or 22, siblings always have a way of making each other laugh. My sister and I look to squish each other into a tight hug whenever we take photos together. Sometimes this works, other times my cheeks get smooshed. Siblings seem to feel like they can be sillier when it’s photos of just them, and I feel like it’s easier to capture their personalities.

2. The combinations. Photos with the whole family are amazing, but there’s something about some one-on-one time with a parent or sibling. Having more than just the whole family standing together can make it easier to create and album or a wall display without using different variations of the same grouping of people, giving the display a more appealing look.

3. Getting photos of just the parents together. Parents or grandparents are often so worried about getting photos of their kids, that they don’t get any recent photos of just them, and I love to make sure to do that. Their love was the beginning and the inspiration for that family, and it should be honored often.

4. Making new friends. I have photographed many members of my family and quite a few from my circle of friends, but I love getting to meet a new family. Getting to know what the kids are interested in, learning about the parents stories, and finding a way to connect to people is always so rewarding.

5. I love hearing from the families when they see their photos. I love when they tell me they can’t choose a favorite because every photo from the session is their favorite. It brings me so much joy to be able to help put that smile on their face when they get to see their gorgeous family all together.
