It had been unusually cool the week before Little Paul’s two-year photos, but of course was quick to heat up when we were going to be outside for a couple hours. We tried to stay in a somewhat shaded area at the beginning of the evening when it was hottest. She was very cooperative for the most part, and we even got a few smiles out of her. There may have been some candy bribery as well.
Along with the candy, I tried quite a few different ways to get Little Paul’s attention. There were bubbles, balloons, a whoopee cushion and even dancing to “The Hot Dog Song” from Mickey Mouse Club House. Some worked, some didn’t. We even bribed her with a puppy at one point from my Dad’s barn. She was more interested in making her parents pet it.
For one of the locations, we went to a friend of Amanda’s. We used their barns and a field to mix up our setting. The farm owners had a miniature horse, named Little Woman, that Emmy just adored. As a Missouri Children’s Photographer, I’m used to just rolling with things that can at time be distracting, like puppies and ponies. Some of my favorite photos are of the little ones reactions to playing with the animals.
At one point, she insisted on going to see the horse, so we focused on some photos of just Clint and Amanda. When we were able to get her back, we worked to get some of her with each parent individually before she completely tuckered out on us.
Justin came with us for the shoot and was so much help. Since we all hang out socially, it wasn’t odd to have him there with us. Afterward, we went and ate Mexican – which was all Little Paul had been concerned with all night. We rode with Clint and Amanda to the locations, and as soon as we were in the car Ey was talking about chips and salsa.
