I was so happy to help Mamie and Derek celebrate their upcoming second anniversary on Tuesday night! We had so much fun and were laughing until our cheeks hurt, in large part to Derek’s sass. These two are so in love and I was overjoyed to be the one to capture it on camera for them!
We bounced around to a few different locations, some even suggested by Derek – who also claimed to be a photographer in another life. I would have to say my favorites from the session are with the red barn. Mamie’s dress and boot combo was to die for! It was amazing to see how easy the two laughed together. We did more posing than I have done in the past, but I was happy for the practice – especially since some of the poses we were going for took me longer to figure out than they should have. Mamie and I had created a shared Pinterest board so that I would know exactly what kind of photos they wanted heading into the session. Towards the end of the session we took a break from posing and I put on the song Derek had been signing all night for the couple to dance too. As a Missouri family photographer, I’m used to the bug bites, but I’ll happily suffer through them for sessions like this!
We ate dinner together and discussed Christmas cards between our golden hour photos and when it would be dark enough for some sparkler photos. I absolutely love sparkler photos and being able to manipulate the camera to give the clients what they want. We did a few different variations with the help of a couple friends. The spiral sparkler photo requires an extra person to assist, so our friends Lindsey and Jake met us at the location. We also tried a heart and just using a stationary sparkler as the light source for the photo.
