Five favorite things: Newborn sessions

Newborn sessions are so important in my mind. Those brand new little bundles of joy are so tiny, and there is something so great about capturing their smallness. They are this fresh, perfect little person with tiny button noses and small heads covered in the softest hair (or peach fuzz); and they are just so unbelievably beautiful. So today, I am listing out my five favorite things about a newborn session.

1. They are so tiny

I love putting babies in different props at a newborn session. Tire? Yes, please. Cute basket? Don’t mind if I do. This only really works when they are tiny, fresh, little babies. They don’t try to pull up or crawl out of anything, and you can just gently get them settled and viola! Tiny baby in a tire. ๐Ÿ™‚

2. Taking the photos in their home

I think it is so great to get some photos of that sweet new babe in their nursery, especially in their crib. ๐Ÿ™‚ Between baby showers and decorating for a new baby, photographing their nursery during an in-home newborn session is important to me. Parents put a lot of time and effort into them, and I want to document it for them.

3. How precious they are when they are sleeping

Seriously, look at that baby?! Getting a newborn into a deep sleep allows for them to be posed and wrapped much easier than if you are struggling with a wide-awake baby.

4. But also, when they are wide awake.

I love getting to interact with the babies at a newborn session. Getting to see their precious little eyes look about as they explore the world is so great. Talking softly to sooth them and keep them calm while photographing them is also a skill I have developed. I need to get better about scheduling sessions during nap time, because something about me just keeps those little babes bright-eyed and bushy-tailed when I show up. I think that due to the amount of coffee I consume, caffeine must just radiate off of me. ๐Ÿ˜‰

5. Capturing their tiny little details, like hands, eyelashes, little toes, etc.

They will never be this small again, and I think it is important to get all the details captured before they change forever. I love those little chubby fingers and baby wrist rolls. The tiny crease around their wrist is my absolute favorite. ๐Ÿ™‚
