Assignment 4 – One roll at different times

Wynn and I worked on this assignment together. Because it was just Wynn and I over a weekend, we shot a roll of Portra 800 on Saturday, and a roll of Portra 400 on Sunday. Assignment four was all about light and shooting one roll of film at different times throughout the day. I chose to shoot at four different times throughout the day. It would have been nice to do more times, and get a better fell for several different lighting scenarios. However, with a seven-month-old, four times is what was practical.

We started at 7:30 a.m. before heading out to pick up groceries. The film was rated at 200, with the aperture at 2.5 and a bulb-out reading from the light meter told me to set the shutter speed at 640. It was pretty sunny first thing in the morning.

The next set of photos were taken at 12:45 p.m. I meant to take some earlier than that, but life happened. It was intermittently cloudy while I took this group of photos, so there’s sun in some and cloud coverage in the others. The film was rated at 200, f/2.5 and shutter speed of 1000. I had the bulb out on my light meter to get the settings. During the Portra 400 roll I shot during assignment 2, I metered bulb in.

My family and I agree that Wynn looks like he’s campaigning for something in this one haha.

The third set of photos were taken at 3:45 p.m., and I rated the film at 200, f/2.5 and a shutter speed of 1250. It was intermittently cloudy again during these photos.

The fourth and final set of photos were taken at 6:40 p.m., with one very tired baby. The film was rated at 200, f/2.5 and a bulb out reading told me to set the shutter speed at 320. We were rushed getting these photos taken, and I think it was mostly sunny.

I definitely think I prefer the look of film photos when there is a lot of sunshine! What about you?
