One of the biggest questions I get from clients is, “What should I bring to my photo session?” That’s a totally valid question! I am definitely a person who likes to have a plan and prepare, so I am usually the one asking these types of questions. Does this sound like you? I’m here to help!! Below, I’m sharing what you should bring to your session for yourself, your kids, and your dog if they are coming too!

Outfits + Accessories

I talk a lot about your outfits for your session, and that is because it can have a HUGE impact on the overall feel of your images. If you’re dressed and ready before heading out for your session, maybe think about a back-up pair of shoes, or a more comfortable pair, for walking from place to place.  And if you have more than one outfit, don’t forget accessories and shoes for the second outfit.

What should I bring to my photo session if I have kids:

Some common items to bring when you have kids are their outfits if they are changing when you get there, wipes because you just never know, a comb to help with carseat hair, and bribes like fruit snacks or smarties if you’re cool with it. Bubbles can always be fun to make them laugh when I am taking their individual photos. Mainly just know, those littles are going to run the show for the hour we are together, and that’s okay. It’s a whole weird experience for them, and I want to allow them to adapt and get to know me. And that can require some patience, and that’s okay. Because I just love kids. They are hilarious and adorable.

What should I bring to my photo session if I am bringing my dog:

I LOVE DOGS! If you want to bring your dog to your session, I am good with that! We just have to be mindful of our session location and if pets are allowed, and your dog’s temperament around other pets + people. Some good items to have on hand are poop bags, treats, a leash, a squeaky toy, and maybe a friend or family member not in photos to help hold the dog if they aren’t going to be in every photo.

What should I bring to my photo session? Any other questions?

If you’d like to bring a blanket, that is more than okay. I have a cream-colored one I tend to bring to sessions, but if you have one that means more or you’d like better that is 100 percent okay. Something I often bring to our own sessions are comfortable clothes for the ride home. I have legit changed into leggings after we’ve had our photos taken. There was snow on the ground and I was in heels and a nice dress. I changed in the car and put on leggings, a sweatshirt and sneaks so I could warm up and be comfy.
