Things we love: home improvement projects

We have a penchant for home improvement projects. Going Lowe’s or Home Depot can be dangerous for us. We decide on things we’d like to change, or something Justin should build and we’re off to find supplies. Below are a few of the projects we’ve undertaken. Some, like the kitchen, were well planned. Others, like the bedroom, were on a whim. I said something to Justin on a Tuesday and by the following Sunday, it was done!

The kitchen

This one was a multi-part project. It started with the cabinets and painting the walls before I even moved in. Then the new floors (the same weekend we brought Banner home). After that, it was an island that Justin built. And finally is was the back splash. Now we have a kitchen that I love to spend time in.

When Justin bought the house, the walls were an interesting (for lack of a better term) shade of pink and the cabinets were painted brown. The flooring was laminate. This has definitely been the room with the most improvement!

*Also, the KitchenAid matches the cabinets. 🙂

The living room

This one was tedious. We bought a new couch from craigslist before I moved in. Our next step was to get rid of the hunter green walls. They were textured and we did not like them. At. All. Over one Labor Day weekend, we sanded the walls, primed and painted them a lovely shade of blue. (That in all honesty, I want to repaint. It was perfect at the time.)

The picture is poor, and we have decorated, but this was taken almost as soon as the paint dried!

The bathroom

Our bathroom was also a shade of green, but not hunter green. It had brown tile walls and some laminate flooring. We were not fans. We also painted our bathroom a shade of gray the same weekend we painted the living room. So. Much. Paint. Justin busted out the shower tile and we installed a new tub in 2017. He also laid new flooring that looks like barn wood, but is tile. There’s still a bit to do for it to be complete, but it’s a huge improvement.

Our bedroom

This one has been my favorite. I love the clean white walls and how bright it is! You can see the complete before and after here.

What’s left

We have almost redone the entire house! Here’s a list of the last few things to get done:

  • We have a bit to do to get the bathroom completed.
  • The guest room and hallway need a fresh coat of paint.
  • The office needs some touch ups and new trim.
  • Landscaping!
