Things we love: at home date nights

We are home bodies. Not quite hermits, but definitely okay staying home on a Saturday night. For us, a relaxing weekend night at home is needed to recharge for the next week. We try to make at home date nights different from every other night at home with each other.

At home date nights are not just dinner and Netflix each night (which is usually our nightly routine because we don’t have cable or satellite.) On a regular night, I am most likely also on my laptop working, Justin might be reading as we are doing various household things like dishes or laundry as well.

The tried and true dinner and movie is our go-to when we go out or have a stay-at-home date night. Going out to dinner and a movie can turn into a $60 endeavor after dinner, tickets and popcorn. Staying at home makes it simple and cost effective, which lines up with our budget.

Why we love them:

  1. It’s time we set aside to spend together, and being at home means it’s just the two of us. We try to limit distractions (i.e. no working/playing on our phones.)
  2. We use it as an excuse to make something different or fancier for dinner than we would on a normal night. There are some occasions when we might order a pizza if we don’t feel like cooking, but we like to keep it as cheap as possible.
  3. At home date nights are great opportunities to rent a movie we haven’t seen yet. We usually do this through Amazon Prime. It’s easy and there’s no worry about returning a DVD or Blu-ray disc anywhere.

Do you have a go-to at home date night? What is it!? We are always looking for ideas. 🙂
