Summer 2016: chasing the light – Concordia, Missouri Photographer

It has been one crazy summer for our family. I tried to focus on how light affected my images, and getting that gorgeous glow in my personal and professional photos over the summer.

We spent the long, rainy weekend Fourth of July at home. Squirt came to stay with us for an evening and we lit fireworks in the street. It was the only time I can remember wearing a sweatshirt while setting off fireworks. On the Fourth, we went to my parent’s house to swim and eat lunch. Justin and I loaded up the car with a cooler, fireworks and Squirt and Banner sharing the backseat.

The day was spent lazily and towards the evening, the pool had warmed up enough to swim. We had a donut and a flamingo (or if you were Squirt “flamango”) float. Squirt insisted upon sharing the float with Papa. It was a fairly cloudy day, so the light was pretty even for the most part.

In the evening we lit fireworks. Squirt chose which fireworks we would do when, and he and his Papa put on a show for the rest of us.

The last weekend in July, Justin’s sister and her two kids came to stay with us. We went out to Justin’s brother’s house on Friday night, and the kids rode the mower with Jared.

The next day was full of swimming, a family reunion, Cree-Mee Freeze and a trip to the park. We were all exhausted by the end of the evening.

I just adore the light in the photos from the park! 🙂

On Sunday, we went out to the barn and the kids were able to ride Sissy for a bit before an all our downpour started.

We had our annual Davenport Day at the Kopp’s house. Once a year, my mom’s side of the family gets together for a lake weekend or a day to just all spend time together. We go fishing, play lawn games and go swimming in the lake – but it’s mainly about being together more so than what we are doing.

On National Dog Day, I failed to post a picture of Banner. I went in the backyard and took some, but then didn’t get them edited or posted on the day of.

We celebrated my Grandpa’s birthday at an Italian restaurant in Warrensburg. We shared an ice cream cake and talked longer in the parking lot than one would think normal. Jacob said is best, “Those long Alumbaugh goodbyes.” Everyone is so happy to be together, it takes us a while to want to separate.
