Why you should use reception timeline stacking so the party never stops

Have you ever been having the time of your life at a wedding reception, and all of the sudden the dance floor is being cleared for another activity? I mean, don’t get me wrong, we all love a great cake cutting and to watch the first dances. But to clear the floor every time you’re just finding your groove? There’s definitely a better way. Reception timeline stacking all of your special events is a great tool to make sure all your special events are photographed and the dancing isn’t interrupted.

As your photographer, I love when all the events are stacked together like this! It’s so nice when things roll one after the other because I don’t have to worry about missing anything if our time together runs out. We will have it all photographed and then you can bust a move to your heart’s content.

Reception Timeline Stacking All Your Special Events

Now, just hear me out. We did this at our wedding, and it went like gangbusters. Once we started on all the wedding traditions we didn’t stop until we were done, and then we just danced the night away. Since we got married on my family farm, there was no venue cutoff time. And we had an unlimited package with Crystal Events DJ Service. We had to end the party at 2 a.m. Because kids, nothing good happens after 2 a.m.

A sample timeline of this would look like:

  • 6:30 p.m. – Reception entrance + wedding party eat (We let everyone go through the line while we finished up with photos.)
  • 7:15 p.m. – Cake cutting
  • 7:30 p.m. – Toasts
  • 7:45 p.m. – First dance
  • 7:50 p.m. – Father/daughter dance
  • 7:55 p.m. – Mother/son dance
  • 8:00 p.m. – Anniversary dance
  • 8:05 p.m. – Bouquet toss
  • 8:10 p.m. – Garter toss
  • 8:20 p.m. – Dollar dance
  • Open dancing begins

I’m not going to lie, our wedding was pretty incredible (and maybe I’m biased), but people still tell us how much fun they had at our reception. And I’d like to think it’s because once the party got going, we just let everyone have a great time!

So, what are your thoughts on reception timeline stacking?
