Engagement photos have a way of letting you tell everyone, “I’m in love! I’m in love! And I don’t care who knows it!!” (Buddy the Elf quote for you). If you’re recently engaged and looking for an engagement and wedding photographer, I would like to formally throw my hat in the ring and tell you a bit about why I love to have an engagement session with couples who would like me to photograph their wedding.
1. We get to know each other
Having an engagement session prior to the wedding means we have a chance to meet and talk for an hour or two. Getting to spend this time together gives you an idea of how I operate during a session and lets me know what you are comfortable with.
2. We can talk about expectations for the wedding day
This session gives me the opportunity to discuss the importance of having a list prepared for the wedding day of your must have photos. The basic familial combinations I will have on my list, but if there is a group of people or a combination that you don’t tell me about, there isn’t a guarantee of getting it. I want you to get everything you want on your wedding day, so being able to compare lists after the engagement session is important to me.
3. Wedding day timeline priorities
We can discuss first looks, who is getting ready where, when the reception hall will be decorated; and all of this goes into planning the timeline for that day.
4. Location preference
Your engagement photos do not have to be anywhere close to where your ceremony is. Say you’re getting married in Concordia, but would like to do engagement photos in Warrensburg where you met, then the engagement session allows you to have pictures at those locations that hold a special meaning for you.
5. They give you the chance to become comfortable in front of the camera
Having your photo taken is not everyone’s idea of fun, but it is my hope that I am able to change that opinion. I want you to be able to relax and have a good time. The photos will be so much more authentic if you are able to feel at ease and really let your love for each other shine through.
