Favorite five things about Halloween

Halloween is on Tuesday, and I can’t wait to go trick or treating with Squirt! I try to go with him every year, and sometimes try to incorporate Banner into his costume. A couple years ago, Squirt was Hiccup from “How to Train Your Dragon” and Banner was a dragon (okay, it was a dinosaur costume, but he’s a large dog and it was the only one that came close to fitting.) The next year, the were both dinosaurs for Halloween. It is always so fun getting to see how excited Squirt is about all of it, from pumpkin carving to his costume. So, without further ado, here are my five favorite things about this holiday.

1. Pumpkin carving

Since I was a wee tot we have always done pumpkin carving and decorating as a family. We go with Mom to pick out the pumpkins and then we carve them with Dad. (Mom has an aversion to pumpkin guts.)

2. Fall decorations

All the hay bales, gourds, and pumpkins are always so festive. I love the changing leaves, the jack-o-lanterns, all of it. I am hoping to up my decoration game next year and have more than just a pumpkin.

3. Trick or treating

It is so fun seeing what all the kiddos have dressed up as! I go with Squirt and Karley, of course, but getting to see my friend’s and cousin’s children all decked out is always a good time. 🙂

4. The candy

I have a major sweet tooth, and I am a sucker for all the mini candies. The bite-sized versions are dangerous for me though, because if I’m not careful, I’ll end up eating more than two or three whole candy bars. It is just so easy to convince yourself that one isn’t so bad and then boom, ten bite-sized Reese’s Cups later…..

5. Fall foods

Every year on the night we go trick or treating, we have dinner at one of my grandma’s houses. Mema makes potato soup (which is one of my top five favorite foods – no lie) and chili for us all to chow down on after pounding the pavement.
