Family reunion recap: Our weekend at the lake

We drove down to the Lake of the Ozarks after work on Friday for a family reunion with all of my Mema’s brothers and sisters, and their families. After we dropped Banner off at the pet hotel, and gathered up the rest of our things, we drove straight to the fish fry at the resort most of the family was staying at.

Fish Fry

This is the third family reunion in the last six years. The siblings decided to have one every two years, and so far that has worked out. On the Friday evening of each reunion, my uncle Shawn fries up a bunch of fish and potatoes, and a few other people bring sides like macaroni salad or potato salad.

Golf get together

After an outdoor breakfast on Saturday a few of us went to the golf course. There is usually a golf outing for any one interested on Saturday morning. This year, 16 of us went out and tried to beat the rain. We split up into four-man teams and play best ball. The tee times are staggered and my team (consisting of Justin; my aunt, Julie; my cousin, Max; and myself – along with Sharla as our cheerleader) teed off first. Around 11 or 11:30 that morning it started to sprinkle a bit. Then, before we knew it, it was pouring. We were playing so well though that Justin didn’t want to quit, and we were the only team to finish all 18 holes. Our team had two eagles and three birdies, and we were able to finish -7.

We then hung out in the club house for a while, telling stories and just getting to be together. It was an afternoon filled with laughter, a few drinks, and tales of shenanigans from days past.

Dinner for 60

On Saturday evening, we all get together for a catered meal. This is when stories are told about my great-grandparents, albums are brought out and we all just get to spend a little more time together. We went somewhere new this year, and our group was almost too big. However, I like to think of it as cozy.

It was a great weekend with the family, and in two years we get to do it all over again. 🙂

Lake side

Due to the weather this year, Justin and I didn’t get out on the water at all this weekend. Squirt was able to go for boat rides and play in the water during the day Friday, but we weren’t there in time. So, unfortunately I have no pictures of that cutie playing in the water. He also went fishing in his pajamas on Saturday and Sunday, but Saturday we had already left for golf and Sunday we were headed home by the time he was on the dock. 🙁
