How to build your emergency wedding day kit | Midwest wedding photographer

I think one of the most overlooked items when preparing for a wedding is an emergency kit. So, today I want to tell you how to build your emergency wedding day kit so that your wedding will go off without a hitch – and you can just focus on getting hitched! Sound like a plan? Good!

Why do I need an emergency wedding day kit?

I am a firm believer in preparing for the unexpected so you aren’t left in a lurch on your big day. If you take a few minutes to throw these kits together before your big day, you will know you’re prepared to tackle all kinds of situations. And if you never use it? Well, I think that’s amazing. But wouldn’t you rather have it and never need it, than need a safety pin and spend 30 minutes searching for one?

What should go in it?

This list contains a general list of some good things to have on hand during your wedding. It’s always a good idea to keep this bag close and handy in case any unfortunate situations arise. I’m sure you’ve seen some IG reels about groomsmen ripping pants during pictures or had friends get married and have a ridiculously hot day out of nowhere. We want to avoid blisters and be able to quickly touch up makeup or pin back a loose curl. 🙂

  1. Bandaids
  2. Sewing kit with thread the colors of wedding dress, bridesmaid dresses, suits and shirts
  3. White chalk (great for dealing with small stain spots on a wedding dress)
  4. Fan in the summer or a wrap for the cooler months between pictures
  5. Deodorant
  6. Chapstick + makeup for touch-ups
  7. Oil wipes
  8. Safety pins
  9. Bobby pins + hair ties
  10. Lint roller
  11. Scissors
  12. Pens (You just never know when you’ll need one to sign something)

Some extras to consider packing for your wedding day

These extras are things that I think would be great to have in a separate bag to have on hand throughout the day. They are a great way to ensure you have an amazing time all day long and aren’t ever scrambling to find something or sending someone off to retrieve things instead of celebrating with you!

  • Shoes for dancing
  • Crochet hook if dress has buttons
  • Advil/tylenol
  • Liquid IV/Some form of hydration enhancement
  • Portable phone charger
  • Phone numbers for vendors + anyone who has a role in the day (Is your aunt cutting your cake for you instead of a vendor? Make sure your coordinator knows!)
  • An extra copy of your timeline and family formal list
