Things I learned from our first wedding show

As some of you know, we went to our first wedding show this past weekend. I wanted to go to a show as a way to gain some more exposure and meet some potential brides that I may not have gotten the chance to meet otherwise. Justin and I went up on Friday afternoon to begin setting up, and he helped me all weekend. He kept me sane all weekend, and I was so happy to have him there with me.

1. It was a great opportunity to network

Getting to meet so many potential brides was amazing! I bonded with several people by admitting I was awkward and terrible at small talk. Plus, we met so many great vendors while we were there. It was a great chance to meet others in the wedding industry.

2. It can be so overwhelming

I was overwhelmed, and I wasn’t a bride attending! Other vendors were telling me it wasn’t even a big show, but it just felt like there was so much going on both days.

3. Bring snacks. Seriously.

We ate breakfast at 7:30 Saturday morning before heading that way in the morning. And promptly realized when we finished that we had no food. I was starving!! The caterers were delightful and gave us some free samples to eat throughout the day. When we left Saturday we immediately went to find food and ate so much! We definitely brought some snacks and drinks on Sunday (after we bought them at Hyvee on the way because we almost forgot again *face palm*).

4. Keep extra supplies on hand in case something happens with your booth

I tried to rearrange the canvases that I had hung up with command strips. Then one of the vertical canvases kept falling all day. We tried to use some tape instead of forcing the command strips to work, but we had to keep an eye on it the rest of the day.

5. Comfort is important

I’m not saying be a slob, but being comfortable (especially comfortable shoes) helps the day go by better. The first day we were both miserable, and downright exhausted by the end. The second day we took comfort into account and it seemed to go so much better. 🙂
