We have had some interesting weather in Missouri this late in the year, but of course when the time came for a large family session, it rained. Luckily, the Aversmans have a hay barn that let it plenty of natural light (well as much light as you can get on a rainy day) and some round bales that made for a nice background.
As a Concordia, Missouri family photographer, I am quite accustomed to dealing with fickle weather, but I always want to keep the client in mind when making a back up plan. While we would have loved to be able to take the photos outside and have some gorgeous afternoon lighting, the day we scheduled the shoot was the only day the whole family could get together – and that is what is really important.
This was my largest family group to date, and I had a great time with them. I tried to keep all the kids and the dog looking at the camera while making sure that everyone was visible. I have also never had to keep that many young children entertained at the same time and to say we got creative is an understatement. We had balloons, a dinosaur shutter hugger, a whoopee cushion and a whole lot of trying to be funny happening. The adults found the effort quite entertaining, but the little ones just thought I was crazy. And it wasn’t always all smiles.
I loved getting to take photos of the individual families as well! After we wrapped up the large groups, Herbert stayed in the family photo for a couple of shots with his son John, daughter-in-law Denise, and granddaughters Sydney and Emily. We also did a couple of just John, Denise, Sydney and Emily.
Martin, Elizabeth, Nick, Evelyn and Julia climbed up on some hay bales and found a place to perch for a group shot.
Jeremy, Sonya, Dalton and Delaney also enjoyed the set up. Dalton and Delaney were so good during the session and even laughed at some of my jokes.
Austin, Leslie, Noah and Tyler were so easy to work with and the boys were so good for the whole session.
Ben, Kristen and Brooks wrapped up our session, and Brooks demonstrated how we all felt once it was over: tired from being out in the cold!
