While we were in California, I offered to do a mini session of sorts on the beach with the different members of the Tig Ol’ Bitties and their significant others. The whole Homfeld clan was in attendance, so we snapped a few family photos of them as well.
Beach photos were completely different from what I had anticipated. As a Concordia, Missouri Photographer, I am used to large tree lines or barns that block wind and diffuse the light. What we were taking photos in instead was mostly direct light and a very cool breeze.
It was pretty cloudy Sunday afternoon, so we went down to the beach a bit earlier than planned. And then, of course, the sun came out. I was hoping for photos closer to sunset. It was breathtaking to watch the sun go down over the water. I would have loved to have a beach sunset in the background. Alas, everyone was hungry and dinner was taking place after the photos.
I struggled a bit more than I had hoped while taking photos on the beach. With nothing to block the chill wind, or to assist in diffusing the light, it was hard to get the same quality of photograph from previous sessions.
I just want to give some serious compliments to all those beach photographers. They create absolutely stunning images again and again. I definitely need some practice before attempting that again.
I’m still happy with the photos. They show the love that each couple has for each other, and represent the time we spent in California for a great cause.
I handed my camera off once the settings were correct. I wanted Justin and I to be in a few non-selfie pictures from the weekend.
