I love unplugged ceremonies at weddings. And today I want to give you 3 benefits of an unplugged ceremony and offer you a solution for those guests you just know want the phone photos. This way, they honor your wishes of an unplugged ceremony, and all the aunts, uncles, etc. will be happy.
You see your guests faces
Your officiant just announced you to your guests after you shared your first kiss as a married couple. You turn out to celebrate and want to see all your favorite people, and instead you are met with the backs of several phones. Everyone is too busy trying to get the perfect picture to be celebrating and clapping with you.
One of the first benefits of an unplugged ceremony = seeing the joyous faces of your guests as they celebrate with you.
Your guests are present during the ceremony
Phones can be distracting. Someone opens their camera up to take a picture as you come down the aisle, then they decide they also need a picture of you at the front of the ceremony, and of the exchanging of the rings. Before you know it they have spent the whole ceremony looking at their phone and they missed really being present and enjoying your ceremony.
Benefit of an unplugged ceremony number two = guests actually enjoy and are present during one of your biggest moments
You don’t have photos full of phones as you walk down the aisle
In my opinion, this is probably one of the best benefits of an unplugged ceremony: no phones cluttering photos. When you look at pictures after your wedding of you walking down the aisle it can be really distracting to have tons of phones hanging into the aisle.
Third benefit of an unplugged ceremony: No distractions in your wedding photos or video!
A simple solution
Your simple solution? A media minute. I definitely recommend having signage and your officiate announce that your ceremony is unplugged, but you can also say to please keep phones put away until the media minute. A media minute is when the couple is at the front of the ceremony, the officiant announces that everyone can get out their phones and they have 1 minute to take as many photos as they want.
You could have this printed on your signage or in your programs as a way to let guests know they’ll be able to take photos and they will hopefully then honor having the rest of the ceremony unplugged!
