Kali & Bo {Family} – Missouri Family Photographer

I asked Kali if she and Bo would pose for me this week because I recently purchased a new camera. I wanted to practice with the new locations of the camera’s settings in a somewhat professional situation, and I wanted to try to use my reflector a bit and practice with that.

Kali also let me pick out her wardrobe and help with her hair and make up. I have been watching many webinars and reading tutorials about color theory trying to find a way to get the most out of a session. The colors outside are still mostly green, with a little bit of yellow so I felt a red dress would really pop against her surroundings.

The new-to-me Nikon D800 I am now using performed amazingly. I love how easy it is to access and change setting while shooting in manual. The Samyang 85mm f/1.4 manual focus lens I was using is definitely easier to focus when closer, but that could also just be my eyesight. Over all, I love the detail of the images coming out of this camera.

We didn’t have a whole lot of time, and I wasn’t too focused on posing (which is also something I need to practice as a Missouri Family Photographer). I was mainly focuses on the technical aspects of the camera and getting as comfortable with it as I am with my Nikon D7000.

Kali and I did the session out at the my family’s barn where all the horses reside. It was easier for us to go to Bo than to worry about transportation for our short session.

We had so much fun getting to catch up and I loved being there to help Kali get ready for the photos. I forgot how thick her hair is and was having one heck of a time trying to get her fishtail braid to cooperate.
